Political discussions often end in vitriol. And we see a huge gap. An abyss between sides. No more can there be the phony bipartisanship which inevitably calls for one side to dismantle their belief systems and compromise their values to unite with the opposition. Few issues evoke agreement.
The irony of politics is captured in being inflamed with rage when a good idea from the other side actually works. And to cheer the same side as it continues to produce ideas that experience abject failure.
Commenting on my own state of Washington, we had several propositions and initiatives that addressed a state income tax, allowing a new tax on candy and beverages to continue, and another one to require that any new taxes must go through the people or carry a 2/3 majority in Olympia. The state income tax idea was crushed, thank God. The tax on candy and beverages including water was crushed (repealed), and the permission from the people for any new taxes passed. Okay, good. However, the citizens of our most populated and liberal county—the ones that literally provide a monopoly on most of our elections because of their populace—mostly re-elected all of the people responsible for these kinds of bills! Excuse me? King County in Washington state houses Seattle, a beautiful city where I was born and raised which is unfortunately a den of way to the left people who can’t seem to see the irony in voting down more taxes and electing those who propose and promote them.
The woman in our state, who most likely will retain her senate seat, once said to school children in this area that Osama bin Laden built daycare centers for children in his country. This was after 9/11. ??? She voted for every spending increase the left has proposed. She lied in her campaign ads and was even chastised by our liberal rag newspaper. And yet . . . she continues to get votes for her spend and tax agreements with the Democrat leadership.
There is a huge divide in the country regarding the definition or the construction and responsibility of government. Most of us who voted displayed our desire to continue the design and intent of our Constitution. We do not want Communism, Marxism, and/or Socialism. This country has flourished under the constructs of our Constitution. To abandon our way of life would create a dependency on government provision and control, a welfare state where the politicians live high and the citizens live low.
Does anyone really know why Obama is going to India with an entourage of 3000 people, 40 aircraft, and the $2 million, yes, that’s million, a day in expenses?
God, we’re desperate for you. And we thank you for your mercy. Please hear our heart cries. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
