Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel–which means, 'God with us'."

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Matthew 1:22-25 (NIV)

I need to remind myself of this and see it in a fresh way. Jesus should never get old, but Christmas sure does. Instead of keeping my eyes on the Lord, at Christmas I often get grouchy because I get tired of rude people in such a rush they can’t use manners, or the opposite when your customers call you and for a few days out of rhe year act nice, but then as soon as Christmas is over they’re back to being their rude selves.
I need to ignore what is simply part of the way human beings behave and get my eyes back on Jesus. That will be my prayer going into this morning’s service.

Brenda, I used to work retail. Rude people were unavoidable, and, unfortunately, they’re the ones who stick with you when you assess your day, week, job. Some responded to kindness, some responded to giving them back what they gave and mellowed, and others were rude no matter what.
I wasn’t real good at those moments in remembering Jesus died for them and loved them. But He did and He does. I’m sure the Lord will honor your prayer.
I love Christmas, and around here, oddly enough, people have returned my smiles for the most part when I’ve been out and about. Jesus is the reason for the season, and that alone brings me such joy.
