Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Personal because we wrote them. Who are your favorite characters that you've created?

No question Joey Parr of The Famous One is perhaps my favorite of my many creations. I loved him.

And Michael Jamison. But I also especially liked a dead character in Breath of Life who silently played an important part in the story – at least for me.

One of my unpublished novels titled Destination featured Thomas Grand who I enjoyed and an 80 year old widow most of her friends called "Grams" who I loved creating because she was such a spitfire and an on-fire lady. Their unique friendship was a joy to write.

Who do you love of your creations?

Father, you are the Author of Life and all things beautiful. Thank you for giving your people the desire to create characters that breathe and display your handiwork in our make-believe worlds. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Well as I’ve only written 2 manuscripts so far, I don’t have a wide amount of experience to draw from. But my first novel and it’s main character is still my favorite. I like characters who are extremely loyal and determined, and in the case of this character–he does what few are willing to do–search for years for his missing wife. Reminds me of my Dad’s tireless dedication to my mom till he literally took his last breath.
While the novel is not ABOUT the missing wife, it undergirds everything about the man and sets the stage for him to invest himself with that type of loyalty in another person and finally enables him to move on.
That’s why I don’t care how many years it takes me to write it to my satisfaction. That story has to be JUST right.

Sounds like an incredible character, Brenda, just like your dad. Worthy of your time and effort and it sounds like a great story.

Joey is a great character! I could tell you enjoyed telling his story!
Thinking of my current MS, I love my antagonist, Ellen. She seems so bitter at first, but she has such intense internal pain. She loves deeply, but that isn’t the impression she gives at first.

Ellen is a complex character, K, and not easily liked, but if you as the author love her, she breaks through the “antagonism”.
