Into the Fire

If you could do one whimsical thing, what would it be?

This is not something you could just do because you wanted to. Huh-uh. This one thing would probably require supernatural intervention. Or at least it would require extenuating circumstances that you, on your own, could not assemble. You would need connections, assistance, an exceptional favor to be able to experience it. What would it be?

I know what mine would be. It involves my second novel (The Famous One). And it would (will) take the Lord’s divine orchestration for it to ever take place. That’s for sure.

Do you have those kinds of thoughts? Do you hope for whimsical opportunities? Do you allow your imagination that freedom? Can you keep yourself from having them?

I’ve had these larger than life dreams my entire life. I’ve tried to keep them subdued in recent years. My dreams have always been the stuff of novels. Big surprise.

Single-minded, tunnel vision, bulldog determination—that was me. Was. And still can be.

Definitely older now. And even wiser. Thank God for that. Aware of the limitations and the leadings. Willing to set aside and sacrifice old dreams for the service required to satisfy the Savior. It’s much more valuable to serve Him than to seek out dreams that were never meant to be.

Dreams are funny things—so many times they’re based on wants and whims and end up being self-serving and self-motivated. Give me the Lord’s plans over my own any day. I’ve grown up that much at least.

So . . . you got that one whimsical thing you’d do if you could, if the Lord made the way?

Father, I depend on you to supply the basis for dreams, for hopes, for all things good and perfect, hoping always to honor you in the process. Help me to be ever faithful, ever serving you in all things. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
