Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Oh, I love the word “capricious”! And I am so not capricious. Well, I used to be. Somewhat. My trip to Europe to chase after a film star was capricious, but it still took a year to earn the money to go. I wonder if that counts . . .

I am “capricious” in the spirit. Somewhat. Well, maybe not. I mean, I worship capriciously. But anything shared in the spirit must go through innumerable filters to ascertain its authenticity.

Okay, maybe I used to be “capricious”. Or seemed capricious. Or wanted to be capricious? Can still be capricious? Yes, at times, yes I can.

We tend to leave whimsy behind as we age. We become “responsible”, spoken with a serious tone and countenance. It’s true. We do. However, the spark that keeps us “older than you” crowd young is the life of the Spirit who is eligible to throw some downright capriciousness in there once in awhile. And if we don’t allow our “responsibility-laden” attitudes to get in His way and quench His desires, we can have a Hallelujah-fun time in this life.

Have you had a good hard laugh lately? I mean the kind that makes your stomach start to ache and even creates good tears? Borderline hysterical? Don’t you love those times? We need more funny eruptions. I actually have vivid memories of times like those with different individuals. Awesome.

Right now, an occasional car or dump truck and the drone of the refrigerator are what I’m hearing. Tapping this keyboard is actually the loudest noise in my world right now. The softest presence is my Lord, the Holy Spirit pleasant but oh so powerful resting within me as I write this. I exist because He allows me to do so, to be who I am, changing as rapidly as I’m able to be more like Jesus. Not an easy task for a loving Father, but not too tough for Him either. He loves me. That makes my life worth living.

Capricious or just a wannabe, I am grateful for who I am and what I’m becoming. I’m both fun and incredibly serious, always passionate. And my Lord has given me value in Him. Wow.

Thank you, Father, for putting up with me, for working on me, for never giving up on me. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving me, for loving me, for never leaving me. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for your comfort, counsel, direction, and conviction. God Almighty, thank you for my life. Make me better, in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
