Into the Fire

The new dramas are up and running on television. Maybe you’re of the noble sort who proclaims how useless and banal owning and watching a television is. Good for you. I couldn’t disagree more. While a large percentage of television programming is wasted, it is a magnificent medium. It is too bad it couldn’t be used more wisely.

So far, so good, as far as my favorites are concerned. One of my favorites from last year picked right up where it left off with snappy, sharp dialogue and sophisticated actors. If you don’t know which show I’m talking about, it doesn’t matter. I’m not going to argue the benefits or lack thereof regarding TV. I can tell you this much about my viewing: Sit-coms are out. Vulgarity, homosexuality, and disgusting references don’t float my boat.

Good drama inspires me to write well. I love watching it on the big screen and the small screen. We don’t often get to view it in its highest form, but when it’s good, it’s a pleasure to watch.

Isn’t it often the same with reading books? The ones which inspire us might be few and far between, but we keep reading to see if we can find them. And then we keep writing to see if we can write one.

Lord, I just want to be faithful to you in writing. I want to write what you give me. I want to serve and bless you with my efforts. Help me daily, Jesus. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
