Take this survey when you have some time to devote to self analysis—when you’re absolutely willing to look into the heart of the matter, the heart of who you are as a person. Answer truthfully because the whole reason for the survey is to discover if or why you lie to yourself. Take your time—do it in parts if you have to—just do it. In the end you should know yourself better and be willing to make the most of who God designed you to be. You can’t get there without being honest.
1. Why do I think I understand my reasons for my conduct better than God does?
2. Why do I think that I can trust God for one thing and not trust him for other things?
3. Why is it that I can become more like the world and still argue that I’m a genuine Christian?
4. Why do I insist on doing what I think is “right” when I know it conflicts with what God’s word tells me clearly?
5. Why can’t I say the name of Jesus and be comfortable with it?
6. Why can’t I understand that continuing to sin in a certain area of my life is hardening my heart to Jesus overall?
7. What is it that I find so attractive in the world and desire to attain that I’m willing to sacrifice my salvation and relationship with the One who died for me?
8. Why am I unhappy when I’ve been doing everything I can think of to make myself happy?
9. Why do I feel like everyone I know has betrayed me?
10. Why do I fail to do what I know is best and right for me?
11. Why do I refuse to admit that the loving advice and instruction from those who truly love me is superior to those who just want things from me?
12. Why do I seem to be failing in my growth as a person?
13. Why don’t I want to go to church anymore?
14. Why do I think I know more than God does?
15. Is there a way back to truly loving Jesus, hearing from the Holy Spirit, and being able to truly repent for my reasoning and lifestyle?
16. Will I ever really be able to obey God and admit that my life choices are not His choices for me?
17. Am I so selfish that I’m unable to sacrifice my worldliness for His holiness?
18. Do I really think I can fool God with my partial allegiance to Him?
19. Why don’t I think I’m worthy of His love?
20. Do I want my life on earth to be lived to please my flesh when it has served me so poorly to live that way so far?
21. Can I really expect my salvation to count on the day I die if I never make the sacrifice of my flesh to live in the Spirit?
(Any of these apply to your life at present?)
Father, help us to walk in the Spirit, to worship in Spirit and in Truth, to know you how you want to be known. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
