Into the Fire

Atheism and atheists are making the rounds on Christian blogs of late. Most recent that I’ve noticed is over on Mike Duran’s blog “Decompose”. If you have an extra moment, drop over there and add your two cents worth.

The one thing that seems most prevalent in the discussion is the argument that we Christians cannot prove the existence of our God–our belief system referred to as our “fanatasy” by one contributor. We are “blinded” by this as the accusation goes. I find that utterly fascinating. With zero proof of their own conclusions other than those built on a phony science which cannot be factualized, they insist we are the ones who carry on with our imaginations ruling our senses.

People can and do imagine many things and make them their personal doctrines for life. I can’t argue with that. Nor can I argue with their abilities and their entitlement to conjure up whatever belief system they wish to govern their conduct and direct their thinking and ultimately their lifestyle.

What I can suggest is that they open their hearts and minds to investigating the God of all Creation. There is no religion that can capture his power, beauty, grace, generosity, and salvation. There simply is no savior like Jesus Christ. No One like Him. No One like our God who extends his saving grace to the worst of us.

Unlike Mike Duran and others in our faith who can kindly and intellectually debate God’s existence, I can only offer simple thoughts as to His existence. When something greater than yourself makes His presence known to you, it is supernatural, humbling, exciting, and fulfilling. It isn’t imaginary. It’s independent of beliefs and reason but reveals Truth. To explore the process does require faith which is an abstract defined in the Bible as being “sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. God makes no bones about requiring humans to have faith to find Him. On the other hand He tells us that by what He has made apparent in this universe, if man chooses not to believe He is real, at the end of his life when the decision is made as to where he will spend eternity, without a decision for Jesus Christ he will be “without excuse” because God has given the individual his lifetime to determine His reality and the choice of his eternal home.

I know Jesus Christ personally. He saved me. God loves me and every other person on this earth. He takes no pleasure in the death of those who refuse His Son’s sacrifice for them. It means they forfeit eternity with Him, and it grieves Him. However, He offers every opportunity for them to investigate who He is. If they put their hearts into it, they’ll find Him. Not because of their efforts, but because He’ll show up for them. He sees what they can’t: their own darkness, their own searching, their own missing pieces to the puzzle of life.

Can I prove Him to an unbeliever? No. Nor do I need to. God is responsible for that, and He welcomes the opportunity. I know Him. And all the reasoning of man cannot disprove Him.

Time will tell, will it not? If I am wrong, I have lost nothing and enriched my life on planet earth. If an atheist is wrong, well . . .

Father, I am saved by the Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. I need you every day of my life here on earth. I long to share my whole life with you because apart from you, I can do nothing. Thank you for finding me when I finally yielded myself after taking my fill of the world and the emptiness it offered. Thank you for being who you say you are. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
