Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

A few years ago, I probably would’ve answered this with Romance. Now I primarily read Thrillers, Mystery, Suspense, Women’s Fiction, Literary, and some Romance. Always enjoy when Romance is inserted into any of the above, providing it’s good and real.

So. How ‘bout you? What genre(s) do you read?

What genre(s) if any do you not read?

This is easy for me:

Fantasy

SciFi (With a couple exceptions)

Most Historicals

Lord, thank you for the wonderful world of storytelling. Thank you for being the Author of Life. Thank you for the gifts you’ve given your people in the realm of writing. Jesus, you’re all I’m livin’ for . . .

I stick with women’s fiction, contemporary romance, mystery, and children’s fantasy.
The only ones I’m absolutely not interested in are sci fi and horror. I don’t read a lot of current YA either, but that’s because I don’t have the opportunity to.

It depends on the story with me and women’s fiction. I’d actually rather read a good romance over women’s fiction, but “good” to me hasn’t come across a lot lately. Women’s fiction seems to have a tendency to include whiny self-absorbed women, and I really don’t do well with those kinds of characters. Some “fragile” characters: yes. But whiny and self-absorbed: an emphatic “NO”.
