Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Saturday Michael and I will meet for lunch with Kirk, who I met at this year’s local conference in May, and his wife Patty. I met Kirk sitting next to him at an editor appointment. He claims he’s not outgoing, but he’s clever, funny, and serious about writing, and he let me sit with him at a table during one of the idle times. We hit it off and became writerly friends. This’ll be the first time we’ve gotten together since the conference, and no doubt it’s going to be fun.

In the queue to be reviewed: Snow Day by Billy Coffey; Don’t Look Back by Lynette Eason

Can’t wait to read: Chris Fabry’s latest Almost Heaven; Randy Singer’s Fatal Convictions

We have a new dog. The lady who raised him has been diagnosed as terminal, and she wanted to find him a good home. He’s a German Shepherd, our personal favorites. He lived in a small apartment. It’s been major culture shock for him with our home and land, but he’s adjusting. Beautiful, just over a year old, still with a puppy mind—but smart. We’re grateful the connection was made from the other side of our state to us from a shop where Michael delivers product. We made a day trip three weeks ago Saturday to pick him up.

I wish the elections were today.

Father, you care for me and about me. I’m desperate for you. Day in and day out. Help me to be the one you want me to be. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Dogs! My favorite people! Oh what a blessing to have a dog. I have a magnet on my refrigerator that says “A house is not a home without a dog.” That says it all.
One of the great mysteries I hope to understand one day is why dogs are mentioned so little in the Bible, and when they are, it is usually in derogatory terms. That just doesn’t match up to my experiences with dogs. To me dogs are symbolic of living in simple faith and trust.

Brenda, they are mentioned. Remember the verse about angels being among us.

Brenda, I’ve wondered about that myself. And, as you can see, Dayle is a dog lover, too.

    Aw, shucks, Nicole.
Ours is a friendship God clearly ordained for this time in our lives and I’m grateful for it.
On the dog note: the only dogs my family ever had growing up were German Shepherds. One day, I hope my family can bring some canine love to our home.

I agree, Kirk, and grateful I am. See ya tomorrow.
I’ve had four German Shepherds before this one. Love them. It took me a long time to get over putting our last one down. Hurt so bad.
