Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

And do you want to "see" the characters you're reading about? I do. I want to visualize them, their expressions, their mannerisms, their movements, or antics. I want to know them.

What don't you want to see? And how do you not want to see it?

Father, please continue to instruct those writers you've inspired to tell stories. Teach us all the little things that can easily be ignored. Help us to be the best that we can be. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

When I’m reading a book I only “see” the characters in a general sort of way–but that’s how I like it. I don’t want the author spoon feeding me info–I want to visualize my ideal of a particular character. Often a heroic character recalls to mind traits or physical characteristics of some actor I’ve admired and I see them in the role.

I understand. I just don’t want them “blank”. I like to know their “colors”, you know? Because it all contributes to who they are. I bleach my hair blonde because I’ve always loved blonde. I was born blonde but it turned brown. (Now it’s mostly grey so it’s going to be blonde for as long as I can color it!) In spite of all the blonde jokes, I’m a blonde at heart. (No wisecracks, Mark H.)
But it’s not just about hair color. The color of eyes and height contribute to creating a “person”. You know what I mean?

Isn’t that interesting? Talk about forming images in your mind–I would have pegged you brunette–dark brown, almost black colored hair. I’m assuming if your hair darkened with time it didn’t go dark brown. Mine didn’t–my hair never could decide if it wanted to be blonde or brown so it’s neither. LOL!

Never got dark, dark brown. Just brown, leaning toward the darker shade but not quite making it. Missed my blonde hair, often “frosted” it after high school.
Dark brown, almost black? You must think I’m intense! I am!
