Thanks for the mention, Nicole. 🙂
Mike’s analysis of the conference was spot on. I’ve been to (2) other ACFW Conferences and would say that the diversity among members is growing, but is it growing fast enough? Do we need another writer’s group that reflects wider interests, one that would appeal more to men and the spec fic crowd? Might not be a bad idea.

Indeed, it might not. Food for thought, Bren.
    And you’re welcome, Bren, always.

I was astonished that Mike estimated 15-20% male attendance because that is WAY higher then I’ve ever seen at a conference. It may seem small, but it’s a vast improvement.
Now if only some of those male writers would write some heavy duty historical fiction in addition to their favored sci-fi, fantasy, etc., then I’d really be jumping up and down.
Brenda, enjoyed reading your post as well. Glad you had a great time and I’m sorry you didn’t win your category, but as you say, it’s a fleeting disappointment. Just think of the momentum you’ve built finaling! 😎
I only have one observation about conference as a non-attendee. Actually, one post-conference observation. I’m sure the awards gala itself was wonderful and it sounds like they went all out. But I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t keep up the enthusiasm outside conference.
By that I mean, in years past, people were flooding to the email loop to announce the winners and begin congratulations to the Genesis and Carol award winners. THis year, the list was posted almost as an afterthought later the next day.
Don’t get me wrong–obviously Saturday night is busy and there is much to do. I was just a bit disappointed that the energy and excitement was not transferred to members trough the email loop as well. But maybe I’m just old and crabby.

Brenda, you’re not old yet. Trust me. Can’t speak to the crabby part. 😉
When you consider that there were some high-powered, big name male CBA authors who were not in attendance, that’s probably a pretty good percentage as far as conferences go.
