Christmas is a big deal at our house. We love it. Therefore it's a process to decorate the house. So I congratulate all of you who've managed to deck your halls already, but my house is a disaster right now with all kinds of lights and decorations strewn in rooms and all over the floor. It will look lovely soon. Soon. It will. It must.

I'm happy to say I only have some stocking stuffers left to buy. Shopping is done. But then there's the wrapping . . .

Those of you who know me are well aware this is not our focus for Christmas. We celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy the peripheral beauty as it is: peripheral. It's my favorite holiday, and every year the whole picture of God's love is renewed in a fresh way. Thank God for who He is and what He's done for us.

Father, we love you. We need your mercy, grace, forgiveness, and joy. Help us to honor you in all we do. Always. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

People misperceive and think I’m grinchy because I don’t decorate for Christmas. But for me, Christmas is every day of the year.

I used to decorate a lot, even sold Christmas Around the World products, and I admire a well-decorated home, but for some reason during the past years, decorating has become a job and I leave the majority of the boxes beneath my steps. Maybe when the boys are off to college that will change again.
It’s my plan to get the tree up today while the boys are at school.

I agree the joy of Christmas can be everyday, and I don’t do as much as I used to when my son was little. And I don’t mean to give the impression that I go all out and present an elegantly decorated home when it’s done. Our decor is eclectic but mostly focused on the reason for the season. A while back I decided all the ornaments on the tree would be celebratory of the nativity so my neighbor bought us a bunch of those kinds of “ornaments” for Christmas. I have enough now to ordain the tree with them and lots of lights. We have an old large nativity scene made in Italy that my parents gave us many moons ago. The mantle over the fireplace contains a winter scene with an old “rugged” cross in the background that kids from a Sunday School class made for me out of sticks also a long time ago. Anyway, it isn’t fancy, but all the lights and emphasis make it pretty and peaceful, and we love just having the Christmas lights on in the evening and all day on Christmas. That’s all.

There’s nothing prettier then a home nicely decorated for Christmas, especially when it reminds the viewer of what the reason for Christmas is.
