Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Castle

Since TNT began showing Castle reruns, I've been able to gradually catch up on the series from its beginning. Not having seen every recent episode, I can tell you, from what I've watched, I'm still undecided as to whether or not the chemistry of this odd couple works effectively. Another example of UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension) running its route before finally culminating in a relationship, it's debatable how the current romance suffices.

In the older episodes of this popular series, Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) went through all the typical flirty pursuit, working relationship, grudging respect on her part, real admiration on his part, attraction, rejecting that attraction, subtle jealousy, and the gamut of romantic endeavors before finally realizing they've come to depend on each other and desire each other's exclusive attention, favor, and romantic relationship.

All the typical activities and conduct which comprise UST worked very well between these two onscreen, but now I'm not sure the chemistry between the two feels authentic. The actors seem like actors trying to morph their distinct characters into something meaningful beyond their former actions, but I wonder is it just me or is it not quite there for other fans of this entertaining little police drama?

Any Castle viewers out there care to comment or share an opinion?

Father, thank you for all of those individuals who give their all to the creation of art. May they come to know who you are and why you've gifted them. Please bless the efforts of those who create to honor you. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

I’ve gotta say I agree with you. While I enjoy the show, the chemistry between the two has never worked for me. It seems forced rather than organic. What draws me to the show is the quirky plot lines, not the romance.

Since I watch the show with my wife and am up-to-date, I cant’ comment any further without offering a spoiler.
My wife’s comment about of these shows back to Remington Steele is that the moment the two look like the tension is about to be resolved is the beginning of the end for the show.

My favorite television producer Donald Bellisario feels the same way about UST as does your wife, Tim. He advocates keeping it U (unresolved) until the series is about to conclude (as he did with JAG).
Kana Static as Kate Beckett doesn’t come off as a romantic partner – she’s held those emotions in a box so long they don’t come out sincerely. Nathan Fillion as Castle seems like the perpetually juvenile player whose feelings for Beckett surpise him, making him uncomfortable. Plus, he’s like this metrosexual man who only occasionally shows any courage or bravado other than as a ladies’ man.
I’ve seen the last three current episodes, not those from the beginning of the season so I know they’re “together” now. It seems the desire that compelled Castle to pursue Kate has switched to Kate now. I’m not sure it’s working.
Thanks, Tim and Bren. Appreciate your comments. The show’s been renewed so I wonder where they’ll take it.
