Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God
If you could write "the great American novel", in what genre would you write? Do you have a plot you wish you could tackle? One that won't leave the periphery of your story desires? Do you plan to write this phantom book? Someday?
Lord, you provide the creativity. You go before us. We need to take the steps designed for us. Help us to do that. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
All who’ve heard me yammer on know my chosen genre, but the intriguing question you bring up is “Do you have a plot you wish to tackle?”
That is interesting because thematically, strong loyalty and devotion are big parts of my stories, but off the top of my head there is no one specific plot in my mind that will be the be-all and end-all of plots for me.
But I would be perfectly content to write that one novel aka To Kill A Mockingbird style that is so personally satisfying (and I do mean PERSONALLY satisfying, not commercially successful, though commercial success is certainly a nice bonus. 😎 that I don’t feel a need to write another.
Though to be honest, I would like my first novel to be that way–the one I completed in 2010. I have always had a very great attachment to that story, and if I ever do the re-write that makes it attain the level of story I want for it, I think it could be “the one” where I say, “okay, my work here is done. Time to move on to the next climb-the-pinnacle moment.”

I apologize to all who’ve commented here only to have their comments disappear or not post. Typepad is obviously having “issues” (you know how I feel about that word), but I didn’t realize it until yesterday. Not sure I can get it remedied, but I’ll try. Sometimes I don’t think they know what happens in the ethernet any more than the rest of us.
Now. Brenda, that first novel of yours sounds pretty special to you. I hope you’ll get your tinkering done and either go back to submitting it or e-publish it. You may have already written that great American novel!

I just found this one in the spam folder, Brenda. Dang it. I emailed them to let them know. Aggravating for sure. It’s back because I rescued it (just like this one) out of the spam folder. Grrr.
