Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Okay, is anyone else dissatisfied with the ridiculous turn of events in the series this fall? I could roll with it if it was a three-part story, but to carry on like it's a mere separation without attending to the supposed reason for initiating it leaves me baffled and disappointed. If the writers have run out of ideas since marrying them, if the thrill is gone, then shut it down and say farewell. I don't get it.

Father, may they know your Son. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

That’s my wish for Five-0, too. They just can’t get their act together. Better to go out while you’re ahead than to spoil the whole thing.

So what are your major problems with Five-0? What do you want to see that you’re not seeing?

I’m with you, Nicole. The seperation makes no sense, just like Castle’s disappearance last year made no sense. Frustrating for a once-fun show to get so ridiculous.

I know, right? Just deal with it. I don’t get how the basis for the separation can be ignored from week to week. And to be petty: I love the color grey. Love it. But why is Kate dressed in a grey pantsuit every week?

Oh, the list would be long. It annoys me that they spend a lot of time on a boring but likeable female character (Kono) and none focusing on a very viable female character (Catherine). I like Kono. I really, really do. But any and all storylines pertaining to her are utter boredom and have always been.
I miss the Steve of old who was thinking 2 and 3 moves ahead of everyone else. It’s like he’s had a lobotomy. They raised my hopes bringing Cath back at the very last episode of S5, only to send her off again (stupid) which brings me back to lobotomized Steve. How a cop with Naval intelligence background could NOT be suspicious when a big black truck picks Cath up after the tear-jerker departure scene is just utter stupidity.
And now we’ll yet again be subject to “bimbo of the moment” for Steve as a tried but failed love interest. GAG!
While they clearly left the door open for Cath’s return (the good news, and maybe we’ll get some Seal Team Steve out of it, which I sorely miss), I’ve just given up on their ability to write great female characters. The ones with the most potential they don’t develop, and the ones with the least potential are forever crammed down our throat.
And the one thing about this show that has always ground on my nerves is that Doris got her husband killed, never showed an ounce of remorse for it and even worse, Steve nor anybody else holds her to account for it? No gettin’ past that.
And while I liked Jerry at first–his character was fun–they’ve now inserted him so much he’s positively annoying! Way too much of a good thing. And last week, to my horror, they brought back Danny’s annoying nephew. I hope and pray he is not Charlie Fong’s replacement because that will be unbearable. Over the years I have placed great value on how well they selected secondary cast members for Five-0 and genuinely created an Ohana feel. But they’ve lost that ability too.
In general, it just seems like the show has lost its edge and they don’t know how to get it back. I’m sure writing series TV is difficult in ways I can’t begin to understand, but I do remember the original Five-0 went on a couple seasons longer than it should have, and I don’t want to see them repeat that mistake with this version.

I was bummed as soon as Kate fell for Castle. I thought it went downhill from that point. Castle’s disappearance last season was never explained. Apparently Kate has separated from him because she believes these bad guys will come after anyone she loves? Since she expects him to trust her on this, can’t she just explain to him that she wants to do this separation to fake out these guys? I DON’T GET IT! Kate is dressing like a model instead of a police captain. Even Castle mentioned it that week she was dressed in that gorgeous two-piece dress, which was a light bluish gray! I do like the majority of the cases they are solving.

Okay, let me comment on Deb’s thoughts first. I believe Castle’s disappearance was explained and solved in an episode earlier this year before the finale. It was so impacting I forgot what it was. 😉 Didn’t it have something distant to do with his dad?
I agree 100% about telling him – don’t get it.
Brenda, I miss the Steve of old too, but it seems his status has required him to tone it down – that and Danny constantly haranguing him which gets way old. I like Dano, but they need more “closer” times and moments.
I hate that they can’t “catch” Gabriel (is that his name?). I mean, c’mon. He’s a brutal psycho killer and they’re on an island. Get rid of him.
Jerry needs a more specific role – he’s a geek. Let him stay a geek.
Never once liked Doris or felt like she really cared about her family. I think Cath is possibly tied in with her somehow now – CIA operative.
I think they can still pull it out if they focus more on Steve, give him more of a clandestine role and show off his real skills. JMO.

P.S. to Deb: Kate had to fall for Castle. It took adequate time, but she had to fall for him or there would be no point in their continuing to get closer on investigations and the eventual search for her mother’s killer. No one could do for her what Castle did – he never quit. She needed him.
