Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

     Red-number-5

Five things I detest. Some of you might raise your eyebrows on one or more of these, but I do detest them with little or no apology.

Dripping faucets

Driving the speed limit or just below it in the fast lane

Liberal/Progressive/Democrat philosophy/politics

Copy-editing errors (my own and others')

Compromising the Gospel

Father, you know my heart. Sometimes it's all messed up. Which is why I'm always desperate for you. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

    Here are mine!
clutter – this includes not only things that should be put away, but also what is now called “accessories” and too much furniture.
    drunkenness
    copy-editing errors
    piercings on the face
hard rock/heavy metal (or whatever it’s called these days) “music”

The # of things that fall into this category is quite long but keeping it to five:
    1. Noise. I hate noise. Screaming/crying kids, and especially noise generated by mechanical objects such as those people who have to use the loudest, most hideous sounds to alert them that their precious cellphone has received a call or a text.
    2. Rude/inconsiderate/thoughtless people who never demonstrate consideration of others
    3. Slow drivers and the freeways I’m trapped with them on.
    4. Empty talk but no action
    5. And, as Debra said, clutter. 😎

Those are good ones, Deb. I had to forego my disdain for clutter when I inherited some furniture, my kitchen is tiny, and now we’re packing and moving. 😦 But I get it. And I’m guilty of it. Yes, drunkenness got old a long time ago. Not at all fond of face piercings nor heavy/death/whatever metal. Don’t see the need for either and ponder the motives.
    (Glad you’re back. 😉 )

Noise is a good one, Brenda – I’m sensitive to that one, too, but I don’t include some movies and concerts in that realm. However, some movie theaters go overboard with the sound. I could’ve easily said cell phones in general, but I do realize they have some value. (Sort of.) Slow drivers drive me nuts. 😉 The lack of consideration in any form is a big one – and kind of meshes with the empty talk.

Oh yeah, Brenda, noise is bad. It’s kind of like our dislike of clutter. We like a peaceful atmosphere in all regards. My husband likes rock/obnoxious “music” and hates to put anything away. But he never liked it when our boys were loud in the car! He used to quote Mr. Darling from Peter Pan, “A little less noise, there.” 🙂
It’s good to be back, Nicole. I tried to send you an email yesterday but it didn’t “go”. I guess inconsistent technology is another dislike!

Let’s see, here’s the first five that come to mind:
People on their phones at the meal table
    Tailgaters–especially on icy roads!
    Peas–can’t stand the smell.
Book back cover copy that gives spoilers
Parties with lots of people – give me an intimate gathering any day!

Oh book back cover copy that gives spoilers is inexcusable! I don’t understand why it’s done. I had to give up reading them.

Good ones, Bren! Back cover copy spoilers – ruins it. Why read the book? Yes – on icy roads! What are they thinking?! I haven’t been to a real party in . . . I don’t remember when. Maybe when my husband’s workplace used to put on a big Christmas dinner, etc. Not for a long time. I always manage to find someone who wants a serious one-on-one conversation.
Will look forward to your email, Deb. Yes, another detestable thing: “technology” which is so often undependable. The question is why.
