Remember when there were really good movies to watch? Whether at the theater or a drive-in, it was fun to go to the movies. It could be argued that there are many good films out there to see today, but for me it seems like they appear in bunches and that the majority of them are a tremendous waste of millions of dollars. The irony in making terrible films is they still cost a bundle to make and so many of the Hollywood crowd are leftists who desire socialist/communist candidates that stand for taking the wealth away from people like them.

Anyway, I miss the fun of going to the movies more regularly. Although I greatly enjoy watching them at home with all the creature comforts and the audio/visual setup we have, it would be nice to have a better selection at theaters.

Just my random thoughts on a Wednesday evening . . .

 

Father, there is so much talent being wasted on ugly pursuits. Forgive us, Lord. We're all desperate for you. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

    I’m the oddball in this case. Growing up, going to the movies wasn’t something we did very often. I remember I had to wait and see Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan when it showed at the library. And boy what an impact it had then and still continues to have on me.
    And a movie was the source of a very strong memory that remains to this day. Back in the 70’s (I think) there were 2-3 Benji movies. I remember pleading with my mom to take me to see what was I think the 2nd movie, and she “volunteered” my oldest sister to take me to the movies. To say my sister was not happy about that was the understatement of the century. I also remember in that movie that the ‘bad guy’ kicked either Benji or Benji’s girlfriend down the stairs and there have been few times in my life that I’ve been so furious. 😎
    As an adult, I have not elected to see many movies. Even as much as I love westerns, I don’t tend to take the time to sit through a two hour long movie. I go to an occasional movie in the theaters to support certain projects–say for instance when Christiano put out the movie “Time Changer” with Gavin MacLeod.
    But mostly I think movies never resonated with me because, for the most part, movies are one shot wonders. There are some franchise movies (ie. my beloved original Star Trek) but movies are built around one-shot characters. Perhaps because of TV’s influence, I tend only to gravitate toward characters I can invest in over the long haul. You don’t get that with movies, not even the western genre, which I love.
    I probably see one movie or less a year.

    I love the theater experience. It was often grand old classic theaters that gave me the full picture of drama and an intense emotional experience. I saw Tammy and the Bachelor at least five times at the Northgate theater which wasn’t downtown Seattle and wasn’t particularly “grand”, but oh how I loved the experience and the movie. I saw Old Yeller there too and cried my eyes out. I saw It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World downtown at the new “Cinerama”, the first of the great big screens. I remember it was a comedy with a cast full of stars. The supposed-to-be-funny movie made me sad because it showed the condition of man – I wasn’t a Christian at the time but I recognized the futility of chasing after certain things at the expense of everything else. I love good movie experiences, but there aren’t too many movies worth indulging. Just a few. Like the new POTC!

    Now you know I love going to movies. 🙂 For me, it’s two-plus hours where I don’t hear phones ringing (usually–most movie-goers in our area actually turn their cells off), I can set aside house work & computer work. I can just recline in those comfortable recliners and enjoy a good bag of popcorn.
    As for movie quality, the ones we go to seldom are the Oscar nominees as I’m going to be entertained. I love the Marvel superhero movies, love that they deal with good vs. evil. Hubby and I are likely going to the Captain America movie marathon when the next comes out. 🙂
    I also usually enjoy Disney movies, though their latest, Zootopia, was a sermon about tolerance. (Yes, they actually sermonized in the movie, gave speeches about tolerance. Why is that okay in a Disney cartoon, but not in Christian movies? – oops – stepping down off my soapbox now.) I also enjoy some of the dystopian movies. (Notice, my taste in movies is completely different from my taste in books.)
    What I don’t care for are comedies or so-called romances–they’re usually way too crass or raunchy. For that, give me old-fashioned romance or humor.

    Yes, the comedies and “romances” of today are truly crass and raunchy. Not wasting a dime on them. I love the movie experience for allowing me to slip away too, Bren.

    Now you all have me trying to remember the last movie I saw at a theater. I think it was War Room but I’m not sure. Before that it was the first Hunger Games movie.

    The last one I saw was the new Star Wars movie. I took my grandson (15) and my youngest son and we got stuck in the near front row seats way down in front. I thought it would bother me, but once the movie started I forgot all about it and didn’t get a stiff neck. 😉
