Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Napa kitchen by John K. Anderson

The wide open space is nice. The actual "kitchen" is minimal. Not a pot rack fan especially industrial sized that I'd need a stool to retrieve them. I like the floor and straight back chairs at the island, and although I like the "picnic" table and bench, I need a back to sit against. Not fond of the checkered squares behind the stovetop , the green island and bookcase. Love the high ceiling and beams even though it seems a bit of wasted space.

Father, you know what each of us needs – and wants. You show us beauty and grace in this corrupted world. Thank you for those who design and build. May they honor you with the skills you've given them. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

My thoughts mirrored yours. Upon seeing the photo my thoughts were:
    1. Yuck! Ugly wall!
    2. Ewww—green everything
    3. Huge space, tiny kitchen
That design was a waste of time.

It’s that same green as the other island a few kitchens back. Trends, I guess? Not my favorite – that’s for sure. Odd that the kitchen itself is so minimal. As I look into it further, I’m wondering if it continues around the corner(s) – which would be odd in itself. There’s no fridge in this shot.

My first thought was “wow” to the high ceiling and beams, but it seems that if you’re going to have a 2-story kitchen, the kitchen itself needs to be larger for it to look balanced. I’m fine with small kitchens, but I like everything to scale somehow. I love the butcher block top on the island. I like the floor too. I do like the tiles on that wall behind the range. I really don’t like the range hood or the pot rack. Even though this shade of green isn’t my favorite, I could live with it…for a while. I think I would rather have a fridge than a bookcase in my kitchen! Or maybe the fridge is in that section next to the bookcase, and I just can’t see it.

The more I look at it, the more I’m convinced the kitchen continues around the corners. There’s a countertop running next to the bookcase to the left and under it and also under the island (I like the butcher block top too) are “wicker” basket/drawers (which I don’t like). The fridge has to be around the corner – on which side is anyone’s guess.
