Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

       Red-rounded-with-number-5-hi

Here is a list of the last 5 books I've read:

Assault on St. Agnes by Joseph Courtemanche

Takedown by Brad Thor

Foreign Agent by Brad Thor

Vain Empires by Brandilyn Collins

Network of Deception by Spencer Moses

(I've reviewed three of them on this blog.)

Thank you for the talents of your people, Lord. May they always know from whom they get it. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

I’ve been reading a lot of non-fiction, but the only fiction is recently starting James Scott Bell’s “Romeo’s Way”.

What a fun Friday Five topic!
The last 5 books I read..
    – Sarai by Jill Eileen Smith and I was disappointed after enjoying Michal, Abigail, and Bathsheba
    – Sweet Release by Nicole Petrino-Salter (loved it and put a review on Amazon)
    – Nothing to Hide by J Mark Bertrand (loved it)
    – Pattern of Wounds by J Mark Bertrand (loved it)
    – Unwritten by Charles Martin (enjoyed it very much but liked Chasing Fireflies better)

Ah, Deb, thanks so much for a sterling review! Love you.
I miss J. Mark Bertrand’s novels and writing. We can thank Bethany House for being so focused on historical romance as to neglect and not re-sign a truly good author in Mark.
Brenda, go ahead and list your non-fiction books. And I’ve read a lot of James Scott Bell’s work but not “Romeo’s Way”. I’ll have to check it out.

Last five non-fic as near as I can recall (I track my reading on a spreadsheet but it’s at home):
The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss
80/20 Sales & Marketing by Perry Marshall
The One Thing by Gary Keller
Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World by Adam Grant
(loved this one–it should be required reading for every administrator of every hospital and pretty much every nincompoop manager)
And a Trump book (The Apprentice era publication–pre-presidential run)

Not exactly light reading, Brenda. Good for you.

    My last five ~
    ~ MISSING by Lisa Harris
~ THE THINGS WE KNEW by Catherine West
~ MORE THAN A PROMISE by Ruthe Logan Herne
~ THE PROGENY by Tosca Lee
~ WHAT MATTERS MOST by Kellie Coates Gilbert (by far my favorite of the bunch)
And right now I’m reading James Rubart’s THE FIVE TIMES I MET MYSELF. A very unique book. Whether I like it or not will depend on the end.

If I recall correctly, Bren, you’ve really enjoyed Kellie Coates Gilbert’s novels. I’ll probably get around to checking her out!
I’m working on Risking Love – squeezing in time to get it done!
I read James Rubart’s first novel and that was it, I think. He’s a good writer, but the speculative fiction – well, you know – it only works for me sometimes. This title makes it sound somewhat like the first one, but it’s a really good title.

Just finished it last night. Yes, the title is great, and the concept is intriguing. Did the story work for me? At first, yes, but it bogged down as it went on. As you said, just not my favorite type of book.

Thanks for the snapshot, Bren. Yeah, I’ll pass. So what did you think of The Progeny?

Again, I liked the concept. It started out great, but had a really slow middle then a cliffhanger ending. Not really my style.

Yeah, the cliffhangers when you know there is a series to follow just makes me mad usually. Good to know. Thank you.
