Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

              Woman-in-wild

One of the best heroines in modern literature is Sibella Giorello's Raleigh Harmon. Why do I think so? Raleigh Harmon exhibits excruciating emotional strength while being on the edge of completely breaking down. She's attractive, tough, smart, vulnerable, and soft-hearted while exercising cynicism. She's kept her faith amidst severely debilitating personal pain and with each new endeavor she realizes important things about her character, personality, desires, and fortitude, again while re-establishing her breaking point. She's charismatic without intending to be. She has to put the breaks on herself or she will make going off half-cocked a daily ritual with her all-systems-go approach. I love her. She's a perfect endearing heroine because I understand her snark when it happens and she brings me to tears when she's on the verge of them. A real female heroine who's written exactly right.

Who is one of your favorite female heroines?

Father, thank you for Sibella's incredible writing, her unique imagination, and her commitment to you. Please continue to bless her with more stories of Raleigh Harmon. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Nicole, this is such a wonderful way to describe Raleigh Harmon. Deeply grateful for your tender insights and high standards–which are like Raleigh herself. Thank you so very much.

Good description o Raleigh. I still have to read her latest book! I’ve got it downloaded, but I had so many books come in from the library that they’ve taken precedence. Now that that pile has finally dwindled, I can read the books I purchased, and near the top of the pile is Sibella’s.
As for favorite heroine, Jane Eyre will always be a favorite. She’s just an ordinary person thrust into a unique situation & she handles it with intelligence & grace.

Sibella, you know I’m not into superfluity, but Raleigh is a clear example of a perfectly written character. Excellent work. And you’re welcome. 😉
Bren, you do have to read The Waves Break Gray. It’s painful and endearing, surprising and difficult. A great Raleigh Harmon novel.
I confess I haven’t read Jane Eyre – and probably won’t. You know me: rarely go back in time. 😉

Brenda, thanks for your kind words. I hear you on the book pile–same thing here.
Jane Eyre left a deep impression on me when I read her story as a teenager. I can see why she is your favorite heroine.
