Five of my favorite places from my youth . . .

Longacres Racetrack (now defunct)

Sun Lakes State Park (Park Lake in particular)

The Flying Horseshoe Ranch (a dude ranch my BFF and I attended for three summers)

My BFF's house on Aurora Ave. (Love you, Deb.)

Grand Coulee Dam

Father, you gave me so many opportunities to see your beauty in creation, to experience childhood as it should be. You've shown me grace my entire life and of course I didn't deserve it. But you're so kind, so loving, so protective. Thank you for saving me. Thank you is never enough. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Hmm…from my youth. Well I grew up in Maryland, a geographic place I never cared for (I was always a mountain girl and Maryland is anything BUT) so I wouldn’t say it contains any favorites for me. HOWEVER, the one advantage I did have is growing up in the country (you gotta be RICH to live in the country around here!), so I’ll just say “wherever the animals were” were my favorite places. 😎

Fair enough, Brenda. I get it. I was born and raised in the city of Seattle. I wanted to live in the country with horses for as long as I can remember.

We didn’t go to very many places. I grew up in Western Illinois.
    1) my church! I started going to church with my parents as an infant, and my parents were very involved. It was like a second home, and I was happy to get married there. We moved away as soon as we got married, and it was hard to leave the life-long friends. Always fun to go back and visit.
    2) Loud Thunder Forest Preserve – we had fun times fishing there as a family and fun church picnics
    3) my grandparents home in Arkansas – this would be number 1 if I had thought to put them in order. Grandparents make everything fun – like dessert every night! And my grandparents lived on 10 acres, so that was a treat for us too. This was the only place we ever went on vacation, and we looked forward to the two weeks there very summer.

Thanks for sharing this list. Longacres Racetrack is the beautiful place of its nature. Where did you pass most of your time in these five areas?

Spent 30 years working in horse racing. Many fun times at Park Lake in eastern Washington including trips to Grand Coulee Dam and three stints at the dude ranch.
