Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Five things I loved about my youthful summer visits to the Flying Horseshoe Dude Ranch:

The horses of course. My first summer I rode "Dude", second summer "Minnehaha", third and final summer "Friday".

The incredible beauty of the country in the Teanaway Valley in eastern Washington.

The ice cold milk from a big machine in the kitchen and the bowls of sweet plums (first time I'd ever had them like that).

The campfire at night, the songs sung.

That I got to go with my BFF Debbie all three years! (We went for one week the first summer and two weeks the next two summers.)

Father, those are irreplaceable memories I will always treasure. Thank you for Debbie and our wonderful times together loving horses and having fun. And thank you for bringing us back together again, another huge treasure. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Amen to that sweet prayer! I echo those words! Such an incredible blessing – our friendship then, and now again!! The Lord is so good!!!
And to add to some of those memories – oh my – I had forgotten the plums!! Yes!! I had never had them like that before either – and had forgotten!! Little things remembered, yet bring a smile!! And I loved the chili poured over hamburger buns!!! Why do we remember these things?? Another smile!!
My first year I rode Perk. Second was Fireball and third year was Ram. Loved those horses!!
And – don’t forget – the last two years we rode in the 4th of July parades!!! In Roslyn! We hit the Big (??) time!!! LOL!!! We thought so. Only now we know how big Roslyn really is. But it was a thrill !!
And the bunk house and the log beds and the big stone fireplace!!! That is where my love for log cabins and stone fireplaces began.
We could go on and on – couldn’t we? So blessed to have these wonderful childhood memories. Thank you my sweet BFF for remembering, for sharing, for being there with me then, and now again!!
    Love you so much!

A thousand times Yes! I debated about putting our parade ride in – that was so fun! Here’s a crazy memory. I believe it was the second summer – but it could’ve been the third. Remember the counselor Janie (sp?) was going with George Blackburn but they broke up. We little brats kept singing “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” over and over! Remember going to the barn and trying to figure out some dance moves that Alice had been doing? Remember when she combed her hair like a boy? Oh, geez, we had some great times! And now we still do! Thank you, Jesus. Love you more. 😉

It had levers to pull for the release of the milk. I imagine it was aluminum or something – a big dispenser of ice cold milk. And it truly was wonderful. We loved it.
