Melinda Leigh's latest What I've Done takes a familiar subject and makes it her own. This mystery/thriller returns us to Lincoln Sharp of Sharp Investigations, his right hand man Lance Krueger, and from prosecutor to the "dark side" defense attorney Morgan Dane. These three characters are interesting, very likeable, smart, savvy, and still vulnerable at times. Sharp's former cop instincts bode well for his P.I. business along with Lance's former cop experience and brawn joined with Morgan's legal know-how and boldness, and, having been the daughter and granddaughter of cops, she can hold her own with a gun. This is a very good series with quality character development, striking individuals easy to warm up to, wicked antagonists, many suspects, and complex stories.

Beginning with a naked girl covered in blood searching for the source of that blood, followed by an arrest, an old treasured friend of Sharp's, an "enemy" reporter, Lance's mother's help with her amazing computer skills, Morgan's concussion, haunting nightmares, and two terrible fires, What I've Done presents a difficult investigation with few breaks until . . . the truth is exposed in a most unlikely way.

This is a great story – the love between Morgan and Lance gets real, Sharp ultimately fulfills a promise he made years before this case, and a satisfying conclusion ties up loose ends and adds commitments. Morgan's grandfather, her three daughters, and Lance's mom always provide serious moments, amusement, and peripheral entertainment while keeping the main characters in focus. Although there is some profanity, it's not overwhelming. There's even a tiny hint of faith although obscure. Good series.

Father, please continue to bless Melinda with your grace and provision and give her the stories you have for her to tell. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
