Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

If you're goal oriented and need to make lists of probable intentions, I salute you. It's not that I'm anti making goals. Rather it's that making them immediately spikes a certain form of rebellion in me that disputes the necessity of either having or conquering any such goal(s). You can tsk tsk me all you want, but that's the truth of how it works for me.

Now I can tell you what I hope to do in the immediate future, but it has nothing to do with the year taking on a new digit. It has everything to do with what my heart's direction is pressing me to do. There's a novel that's half-finished which simply must be completed because it got stuck in the revolving door of my newest release and the bad habits formed in the consternation of writing that one. The stop/start/stop/start of these last three books has been challenging, frustrating, and just plain hard. Now is the time to continue, to proceed, and to finish. The Lord will see me through the adventure.

Feel free to tell me if you're a goal-setter, a resolution-maker, a planner, over-achiever, or if you possess that same revulsion to making New Year's resolutions as I do. Make a list in the "comments" section if you like. I'll cheer you on and encourage you. I have no problem with your goals. Please, tell me.

Father, you built and wired us all as individuals with sometimes similar tendencies. Your imagination and creativity is endless. Thank you for allowing us to be who we are without condemnation. Most of all, thank you for rescuing us. Thank you is never enough. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Not a resolution maker. Life always get in the way. 🙂
I do have a couple of prayers for the year, though:
    1) That my husband will find a job soon. He’s been out of work since the first part of August. He’s too niche for most jobs, is over-qualified for those in his field, and is too old (57). I know, technically the age thing shouldn’t matter, but…
    2) That the words I write will be written with prayer and will be God-honoring.
Praying you have a joy-filled New Year, Nicole!

Life does interfere with man’s best laid plans or intentions. Excellent reason for not making them.
Will add your husband to my prayers. Man, so sorry to hear this. You’re right: age shouldn’t matter, but unfortunately it does. It seems employers would rather not risk and add what they consider “shorter term” very qualified employees to their retirement/pension funds’ allotments.
And you always honor God with your writing, Bren. A noble prayer He will surely keep answering.

Brenda, I add my good thoughts that your husband find the right job for him (I never like to say just “find a job’ because if we’re going to spend THAT much time somewhere it ought to be the RIGHT job!) 😎
RE: Resolutions: I’m not a New Year’s Resolution person but I do like to assess at year end where I’ve been and figure out how I’d like to focus my energies going forward.
Really just a continuation of 2019:
    1. Top priority is my own health-though this focus closely relates to #2 because I’ve had an aggravating time getting the patient education I need to optimize joint health. So first priority, improve my own fitness.
    2. Focus #2, because I am desperate to find a way to help people with mobility (& myself), is obtaining my personal trainer certification. That will in turn clear the way for me to have access to better educational content to help myself and others.
    3. The last priority is writing. There’s a specific project in the hopper I want to finish in 2019, but it has to come after the first 2 areas of focus. I love writing, but I also love other fields of interest. So at this point in my life, writing has to take the back seat.

I agree we need to be focused on what our priorities are and the New Year is a good time to assess those. Sounds like you have a stated and doable (though not easy) purpose to get your priorities accomplished, Brenda. I admire them. And I do hope they can get done to allow your creative side to express itself and get that specific project in the works finished at an appropriate time. Good for you!
