Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Five of my favorite childhood experiences:

My first horseback ride at age 4 in Montana when the horse I rode took off at a gallop. I loved it, but my parents were horrified. The guide rode a white horse and came after me, slowing down my horse who apparently behaved after that.

Playing "pioneers" with my BFFs.

Putting on recitals in my back yard.

Reading and writing stories in the summertime in either my or my friend's backyard.

Going camping with my friend and her family in their trailer to eastern Washington, Sun Lakes State Park being my favorite place to go.

Father, you've been so gracious to me. Such a wonderful life. I'm so sorry it took so long for me to meet your Son. Thank you is never enough for your grace, mercy, and patience. Still desperate for you. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

    Sounds like fabulous memories!
Here are a few of mine:
    1) Playing bicycle tag through our woods
    2) Going down to our lake with our German shepherd (which was about a 1/2 mile from the house & barn) where I’d dream up stories.
    3) Putting on concerts in the hayloft
    4) Riding on the homemade sled attached to a snowmobile as Mom and Dad took all 7 of us kids for a ride. (When we were little, of course!)
    5) Going sledding down the hill across from our house. You had to make sure you turned at the bottom or you’d run into the barbed-wired fence. Of course, we always waited until the very last second! It’s a wonder no one ever got hurt!
    6) Bonus memory I just thought of: For Thanksgiving, we always made the 50-mile drive to our cousins. One blizzardy Thanksgiving, Mom and Dad bundled all 7 of us kids up and had us squeeze in between hay bales in the back of the pick up. We covered up with a tarp and made that 50-mile drive. Best Thanksgiving ever!

The real cool thing is, we’re all close to this day, so childhood activities do matter.

That warms my heart, Bren, especially with a “big” family. Just in the last couple of years, I was able to reunite with my two major BFFs from childhood. Ah, the memories and fun times we share to this day! And nothing (on this earth) beats the support of close family and friends when we need it most.
