Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Have you ever . . . ?

Broken your nose?

Yes. A line drive softball direct hit at me, the pitcher. Knocked me down. Blood everywhere.

Thrown something in anger?

Of course – probably outdoors.

Screamed at the top of your lungs?

Yes, making a recording on my new little tape recorder with my mom and a friend pretending to be the audience at a concert.

Fired a pistol?

Yes. More than one. More than once.

Fainted?

Yes. Three different times.

Father, you've always taken care of me even when and especially when I didn't deserve it. Thank you is never enough. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Ouch! Line drive? That had to hurt like the dickens!
    Broken your nose? Nope
Thrown something in anger? As a kid, yeah.
Screamed at the top of your lungs? Yes. Around April in my apartment when Corona hysteria & all its societal/economical side effects were getting the best of me. Fortunately no one called the cops. 😎 BTW screaming at the top of your lungs is very therapeutic when you are highly stressed.
Fired a pistol? No, I don’t think so.
Fainted? Yes, once in church. It was embarassing.

Fainting is always embarrassing. Isn’t it? First time was at a movie theatre, second time was at a restaurant (and knocked over a tray a waiter was carrying – I learned in hindsight), and the third time was at my dad’s when I was supposed to be caring for him. The first and third times were a reaction to pain – short stories but some other time. I’m not sure why the second time.
Boy, do I get the screaming about that! I can see where screaming could relieve stress – if no one called the cops. Hahaha!
Yeah, that line drive was a doozy! Definitely hurt with impact. The guy felt terrible, but it wasn’t his fault. He merely hit the ball, and I was too close for the trajectory. Smack!

    Never broken my nose.
I must have been 19 or 20 when I threw something unbreakable in unjustified anger. I wish there hadn’t been anything in my hands! There have been other times when I have WANTED to throw something but there was nothing in my hands.
Screaming sounds painful to me, so I haven’t done it.
I fired a pistol at a shooting range and even knocked one of the plates down!
    I’ve fainted a few times.

Screaming can be painful, I agree. Good shooting, Deb! When or what caused your fainting? If/when I ever threw things, it was out of pure frustration.

I don’t know what caused me to faint the first time. I was only 4 or 5, but I remember it. My mom rushed me to the doctor, but apparently it wasn’t anything serious.
The next time it was due to an inner ear infection.
I fainted once in each of my pregnancies. I think it was the heat that caused it both times.
I was at home each time.

Wow, Deb. Passing out in your pregnancies? Yikes! I can see where heat could make one faint. Good thing you were home.

    Broken your nose: Nope
Thrown something in anger: probably, but can’t recall a specific time.
Screamed at the top of my lungs: maybe when I was little, playing. Or maybe when riding on a roller coaster. 😀
Fired a pistol: Nope. Just a BB gun, and I couldn’t hit anything.
    Fainted: Never.

Pretty interesting answers, Bren. Interesting that three of us here have fainted and you have not. And the kind of roller coasters you went on – I can hear screaming! Hahaha!
