Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

New Year's Eve is perhaps the biggest party night of the year. Or it used to be. What it is, what it's become, all a matter of opinion and practice, tradition and celebration, or . . . whatever. To each his own.

This year we are doing something rare for us. We've invited a small contingent of wonderful friends over for a potluck evening with no plan other than to enjoy each other's company and the food everyone decides to bring.

Usually, I'm in bed at my usual time. No big deal. Just another night on the calendar of life.

But this year, for whatever reason, it seems the Lord had other plans for December 31st, 2021, and I'm looking forward to whatever we discover about His plans for the evening. I'm a willing participant and anticipating a meaningful evening.

Of course I'll have to be geared up with extra doses of Spice Chai and Coca Cola to make it into a new year, but, hey, I can do that.

I don't make resolutions, but I am resolute about getting closer to Jesus, using the power of the Holy Spirit at His direction, and deeply experiencing whatever God wants of me. That's the crux of it all for me.

You?

Father, as you lead us into a new year, only you know what will happen, what you've designed, allowed, or will ordain to come to pass. We place our hearts' trust in you and ask that you increase our faith to do what you have for us to do. And to do it well. Thank you for it all – although that deeply meant thank you is never enough. Rescue us always and lead those hearts to you that have been opened to your Spirit's leading and conviction. May it be a grand year, a year of rescue and restoration. Ordained by you. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

I will be ringing in the new year while I sleep. Staying up until midnight just to shout Happy New Year! always looks much more exciting in the movies than real life to me. Guess I’m a party pooper:) Wishing you a wonderful time with your friends tonight and a blessed new year filled with God’s goodness and mercy! Happy New Year!

Our family used to go bowling on New Year’s Eve, but kids are going their separate ways now. That just means, Marv and I will stay home and watch movies. I stay up later usually, so making it to midnight won’t be a problem.

Barb, that would be me normally. This year it seemed the Lord had a different idea. Good.
May your New Year be filled with God’s abundance and blessing, His presence and direction, His grace and mercy. Enjoy! In spite of it all, enjoy.
Bren, things do change over time, that’s a given. I wish you and Marvin a fun New Year’s Eve and untold and unimagined fullness and blessing from our mighty God. And may it start the nano-second after this year ends and the new one begins.
    Much love to you, Ladies.

Connie and Mike, our precious friendship has survived the years and miles, the distance that we always managed to make up for when we’d see each other again.
I pray multitudes of blessings over you two in every venue, every facet of your lives. May the Lord continue to pour out His Spirit upon you and give you a fresh inspiration in all you do. May He refresh your spirits and keep you safe from all harm. In the Name of Jesus, our dear friends. We love you.
