Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

During my series posts regarding the promotion of other authors’ novels, you got a glimpse of my particular tastes and styles of writing and genre preferences. The authors I covered in that series were personal favorites. Inspirational for me.

Reading is an essential part of writing in my world. I’ve chosen not to review every novel I’ve read because some of them haven’t met the standard I need to write a review. It might be one book out of a series that just doesn’t cut it either because of a lackluster plot and its development or I’m not inspired to take the time for it. I refuse to give 1-star reviews because I believe they say more about the reviewer than they do the book. If a reader doesn’t like the story, that doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it. Novels are definitely subjective, and, although a person has the right to dislike or even hate what someone has written, why trash their work just to be “heard?” If you don’t like a book and you must write a review, just say “not for me” or something similar.

The inspirational part of reading is enjoying the unique approaches to similar topics, the way a description of something common is made original, and even how the punctuation can provide unusual emphasis. The way writers create can be an emotional, hilarious, and/or scintillating experience. Well worth the time it takes to read a good book.
