Yes, “point of view” is a term used in the writing world often referring to which character is “speaking” and/or what viewpoint a character or the novel as a whole represents.
But of course, point of view isn’t limited to writing. And when it’s given to a random viewpoint, it can determine the state of mind of the individual or group who is being referenced.
Let’s take it to a more intimate level. How often does your point of view affect the outcome of your mood on any given day?
When you look out the window in the morning as the sun rises, are you admiring the sights and sounds around you? Or are you wondering when you might get out of the place you’re in? Are you picking out little glimpses of beauty or are you disappointed in all you’re seeing? What is your point of view at the break of day? Does it change throughout the day? Get worse — or better?
The simplest things in life can make our point of view hopeful, joyful, dreary, or sad.
Keep this in mind when you’re struggling with your point of view:
A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22 (KJV or NIV)
