Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

I know the political rhetoric is accelerating and can be nauseating. I know it's difficult to decipher the facts from fiction. The information gathered here has been researched and documented. Honestly, aside of all peripheral reasonings, the facts speak for themselves. The following are not results of the Bush administration. They belong to President Obama. He owns them. Four more years of escalating deterioration is not what the USA needs to remain America. I hope you will read these facts and consider the one man who's responsible for them.

    Fact checking:

Michelle Obama's dad, Fraser Robinson, in the '70s, was a pump operator at the Chicago city water plant. It's been said that he earned around $50-55,000 back in the 70s. $50,000 in the 1970s is approximately equivalent to $282,000 today. And her mother, Marian Robinson, was a long-time secretary at Spiegel's, the catalog store. Obama was raised by a banker. Obama went to the top private school in Hawaii. They both attended elite schools and Ivy League universities. Michelle went to Whitney Young. Whitney Young was a public magnet school for Chicago's upper class. Barack went to Punahou, which is the private prep school for the top strata of Hawaii society. They both grew up in two-parent American homes, Obama at his maternal grandparents.

America's debt under Barack Obama: $16,000,000,000,000+

No Congressional Budget. Obama submitted one budget. Not one Democrat or Republican voted for it. Not even one.

Gas prices higher under Barack Obama.

Food prices higher under Barack Obama.

    Major tax increases: http://www.heritage.org/multimedia/infographic/2012/06/how-will-taxmageddon-impact-you

Unemployment higher under Barack Obama. Over 8.3% for 42 months of his presidency. Is estimated to be at over 15% overall because of those who've become ineligible for benefits and have yet to find work and those who are working at a lower level than their previous jobs. Female workers have suffered the most layoffs under Barack Obama. 23 million Americans not working. Estimates up to 80 million out of work.

Food stamps higher than ever before at 43,000,000 issued to people.

    http://blog.heritage.org/2012/09/06/morning-bell-clinton-is-wrong-on-welfare-reform/

70% of the taxes in this country are paid by 2% of Americans.

The real net gain of new jobs under the Obama administration via the Dept. of Labor: 300,000 net gain in nearly 4 years, not 4.3 million jobs. Less jobs overall from businesses that couldn't keep going.

    The party of death:https://aclj.org/abortion

You can choose to ignore the facts and continue to blame the Bush administration because of your devotion to a political party or figure or the dislike you have for the opposite party and their candidate. The noted decline in the Bush administration began after the Democrats gained control of Congress. Obama has proven he cannot "fix" what was considered broken in his eyes and it's obvious his philosophy from the beginning has been to rebuild America into a Socialist/Marxist nation. Why the facts fail to speak to some for this man's presidency is difficult to understand.

    "Facts are stubborn things."

God, please remember your remnant. You're the only One who can bring hope and change. You're the only hope for this nation. And only you can change the hearts of mankind. We're desperate for you. In the Name, Authority, and Blood of Jesus, Amen.

    Write-a-book2

I'm prone to write a lot of description because I want my readers to see my characters, physically and in actions, both subtle and overt. I want them to feel like they're reading a movie. This is my style.

Others write with a staccato beat, sharp and quick. Brandilyn Collins with her Seatbelt Suspense comes to mind.

Some write with adrenaline surged into words. Robert Liparulo thrillers for example.

Others write sparse, almost sterile. Of course Hemingway comes to mind. I've never understood why people admire his writing, although I do think he was a good storyteller.

If done well, I can appreciate lots of picture painting in literature. It aids my visual renditions of the story, and I love to view the words come alive in mental pictures.

I've joked about my writing style and called it "street literary" because it can be briefly coarse where needed but I love to play with word images, make them pretty or meaty. Who knows if I succeed . . .

I guess I've happened upon a new phrase for my writing: "Raw, Romantic, Redemptive". Yeah.

How do you write? Describe it.

Lord, thank you for my life, who you created me to be. I'm still working to get there in need of so much improvement. I'm grateful for the passion, but it does tend to hurt. Deeply. I think I'm most like you then. Thank you so much. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

First novels. This is mine. All 744 pages of it written originally in long hand notebooks. The Glossary of Terms (at the suggestion of my brother) consumed 3 and 1/4 of those pages in order to enlighten the non-racetrackers who would read it since horse racing – like many occupations – has its own unique language. Eight and a half years to write. Would do so many things differently now. Of course.

Got any interesting first novel stories?

Father, thank you for the experience of creating a story from your instruction and for the words of encouragement that carried me through this saga and remain true to this day. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

The second September CFBA Tour features Jordyn Redwood's debut medical thriller titled Proof and published by Kregel Publications. I received this novel free for an honest review.

Jordyn Redwood has put her medical experience to extracurricular use by helping authors answer those tough medical questions on her blog. I've inquired of her myself, and she's quick to reply giving her best answer from her two decades of nursing, specializing in critical and emergency care. This knowledge shows up in spades in Proof. I especially appreciate her lack of condescension to readers – and by that I mean she rattles off medical terms without explanation until specific and unusual situations or terms become necessary.

Dr. Lily Reeves keeps most of her medical associates at arm's length. Even her best friends, two doctors who are Christians, Dana and Kadin, can only get so close before she clamps down on her emotional investments. When the pregnant victim of a serial rapist enters the ER with life-threatening injuries, Kadin is there to deliver the infant. When Detective Nathan Long attempts to gain entrance to talk to the victim explaining she's his only witness against the rapist, Lilly gives him a firm denial because the woman is non-responsive and critical.

After the trauma in the ER, the story takes a detour to Detective Long's past, depicting the event which sent him from the FBI to the police force. Returning to present tense, he visits the crime scene of the latest rape victim. Using the same heinous methodology and with the same limited but specific description of the suspect, Detective Long's guilt over not publicly warning the community, along with his attraction to the victim, compel him forward against the developing odds against nailing the suspect.

I'm not going to give away any further plot elements to the story. Instead I will say that Proof shows the potential of Jordyn Redwood's writing. The strengths of Proof demonstrate her ability to develop a story and to keep upping the tension, keeping the reader on edge.

The first-novel weaknesses will most likely go unnoticed by those readers who enjoy a good medical mystery, but in fairness I'm going to give a few of them. The novel's plot is ambitious and at times veers off track to include the establishment of a Christian theme in contrast to Lilly's atheism. The elements included to point to the reality of faith feel a bit forced and injected like a needle into the arm of the story as a reminder. Kadin comes off as the namby-pamby Christian man as opposed to Nathan Long who comes off as the ultimate hero. Long's attraction to Lilly comes too fast and too obviously and feels like it's right out of a typical romance novel. Lilly isn't a very likable character, and in spite of her  traumatic experiences and determination, it's a bit hard to get on board with her. I cared about her but not enthusiastically. The male characters feel like a woman created them, but I want to reiterate most readers won't notice.

Jordyn has written an interesting novel, although those of us who are devout CSI watchers will recognize the antagonist's condition before anyone else, I suspect. Proof is a decent first effort and has gained a lot of positive attention. The cover is exquisite, the title is perfect, and I'm sure Jordyn's future novels will be better yet.

Father, I pray your blessing over Jordyn for her generous spirit. Please give her more stories to tell and guide her in all she does. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Okay. Does the NFL ever start without a little controversy? This year amidst the neverending putrid saga of the Rex Ryan Jets or the ridiculous over-hyping of the Jerry Jones' over-rated Dallas Cowboys, there is the typical dispute between yet another union and management which has given us an ugly picture of the hypocrisy of coaches and fans deriding the substitute officials for preseason football games because of the regular officials going on strike. I find this particularly amusing because I didn't think there were too many people in multiple occupations who could do a worse job than the "professional NFL officials". Having been victimized too many times by bad and inaccurate calls, I say bring on these new guys.

The ugly part hasn't been their officiating as much as it's been the one-upmanship certain coaches have exerted from the sidelines as well as on the field (i.e. Jim Harbaugh) screeching their disdain and disapproval for calls which were ultimately shown to be correct in replay.

I know there have been mistakes in calls and interpreting the unique NFL rules, but I can't see where these practiced officials, though not in the NFL, could do a worse job than the ones who want yet more money to do their part-time jobs on the field. Sorry. Let them go find that kind of money and perks anywhere else. Adios.

Father, help us to keep sports in perspective. Help us to appreciate the diverse talents you've given to each one of us. Thank you for fun. Thank you for your incomprehensible generosity. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

So what does it for you? What makes you want to read a novel?

If you've never read an author, what will entice you to read his/her novel?

Father, help us who write to entice for all the right reasons. To honor you above all. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

"Woe to you, blind guides! You say, 'If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? You also say, 'If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.' You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? Therefore, he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it. And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. And he who swears by heaven swears by God's throne and by the one who sits on it.

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices – mint, dill, and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law – justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel."

Obama’s Sneaky, Deadly, Costly Car Tax

My column today looks at the latest radical maneuver by the Obama administration — slipped through yesterday while much of the media’s attention was on Hurricane Isaac and the RNC convention. GOP leaders of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued a related statement today on the flawed, rushed rules that were cooked up in secret.

“The rule finalized today by the Obama Administration will hurt American consumers by forcing them to drive more expensive and less safe automobiles. The Administration drafted these standards in secret, strong-arming automakers and short-circuiting the deliberative regulatory process to achieve a purely political result, abandoning sound science and objectivity to appease its political allies in the extreme environmentalist lobby,” Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif, said in a statement on the oversight panel’s website. “I support the goal of higher fuel efficiency, but this rule will only add to the burdens American small businesses and middle class families face under the heavy hand of the Obama Administration.”

    Remember in November.

While all eyes were on the Republican National Convention in Tampa and Hurricane Isaac on the Gulf Coast, the White House was quietly jacking up the price of automobiles and putting future drivers at risk.

Yes, the same cast of fable-tellers who falsely accused GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney of murdering a steelworker’s cancer-stricken wife is now directly imposing a draconian environmental regulation that will cost untold American lives.

On Tuesday, the administration announced that it had finalized “historic” new fuel efficiency standards. (Everything’s “historic” with these narcissists, isn’t it?) President Obama took a break from his historic fundraising drives to proclaim that “(by) the middle of the next decade, our cars will get nearly 55 miles per gallon, almost double what they get today. It’ll strengthen our nation’s energy security, it’s good for middle-class families, and it will help create an economy built to last.”

Jon Carson, director of Obama’s Office of Public Engagement, took to Twitter to hype how “auto companies support the higher fuel-efficiency standards” and how the rules crafted behind closed doors will “save consumers $8,000” per vehicle. His source for these claims? The New York Times, America’s Fishwrap of Record, which has acknowledged it allows the Obama campaign to have “veto power” over reporters’ quotes from campaign officials.

And whom did the Times cite for the claim that the rules will “save consumers $8,000″? Why, the administration, of course! “The administration estimated that the new standards would save Americans $1.7 trillion in fuel costs,” the Times dutifully regurgitated, “resulting in an average savings of more than $8,000 a vehicle by 2025.”

The Obama administration touts the support of the government-bailed-out auto industry for these reckless, expensive regs. What they want you to forget is that the “negotiations” (read: bullying) with White House environmental radicals date back to former Obama green czar Carol Browner’s tenure — when she infamously told auto industry execs “to put nothing in writing, ever” regarding their secret CAFE talks.

Obama’s number-massagers cite phony-baloney cost savings that rely on developing future fuel-saving technology. Given this crony government’s abysmal track record in “investing” in new technologies (cough — Solyndra — cough), we can safely dismiss that fantasy math. What is real for consumers is the $2,000 per vehicle added cost that the new fuel standards will impose now. That figure comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

    War on Middle-Class Consumers, anyone?

Beyond the White House-media lapdog echo chamber, the economic and public safety objections to these sweeping rules are long grounded and well founded.

For years, free-market analysts and government statisticians have warned of the deadly effect of increasing corporate auto fuel economy standards (CAFE). Sam Kazman at the Competitive Enterprise Institute explained a decade ago: “(T)he evidence on this issue comes from no less a body than the National Academy of Sciences, which issued a report last August finding that CAFE contributes to between 1,300 and 2,600 traffic deaths per year. Given that this program has been in effect for more than two decades, its cumulative toll is staggering.”

    H. Sterling Burnett of the National Center for Policy Analysis adds that NHTSA data indicate that “322 additional deaths per year occur as a direct result of reducing just 100 pounds from already downsized small cars, with half of the deaths attributed to small car collisions with light trucks/sport utility vehicles.” USA Today further calculated that the “size and weight reductions of passenger vehicles undertaken to meet current CAFE standards had resulted in more than 46,000 deaths.”

These lethal regulations should be wrapped in yellow police “CAUTION” tape. The tradeoffs are stark and simple: CAFE fuel standards clamp down on the production of larger, more crashworthy cars. Analysts from Harvard to the Brookings Institution to the federal government itself have arrived at the same conclusion: CAFE kills. Welcome to the bloody intersection between the Obama jobs death toll and the Obama green death toll.
