Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Today is the “light” posting day in more ways than one. Here are my current Top 3 romantic scenes:

1. In “Magnum PI” there is a scene where Magnum has found his wife who he believed had been killed in Vietnam. After a fierce street battle in the streets of Honolulu, he takes her back to the estate and into his bedroom where he gently places her on the bed. There is nothing more than a kiss–if that. (It’s been a long time, folks.) End of scene. Oh my . . . talk about steam.

2. There is a love scene in the old movie “Benny & Joon” where Sam (Johnny Depp) and Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson) engage in their first kiss, etc. This is a beautiful love scene with the music to match.

3. In the upcoming Hallmark drama “Valley of Light” (I think that’s the title), in the previews there is a kiss that is absolutely one of the best onscreen kisses I’ve ever seen.

There ya go. Those are mine. From the heart of a true romantic. Here is the disclaimer: I recognize and acknowledge that the second of these does not adhere to biblical principles and that is a sad point for me. I think the reason I love these scenes is because they capture the beauty and “innocence” of romantic love.

Father, you created me with a romantic heart, but you made it pure when Jesus gave me real life. Help me to portray your heart in romance that I write. May it be real, meaningful, honest, and may I address the damage of romance conducted outside of your perfect design with integrity and compassion. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
