As an author, I write love stories heavy on the romance. But I mostly read thrillers, mystery, and suspense. (In previous posts, I explained why I read so little in the romance genre.) However, for literally years, I had a picture in my mind of a murder which took place back on the racetrack. I never thought I’d write “it” because I’ve never felt I had the talent to compose a good mystery. Finally, the pressure from the Lord indicated I needed to write this story, so I did.
Race was the most difficult of all my novels to write because I was so afraid I’d do it poorly. Make too many mistakes and embarrass myself in the “police procedural” parts. I had a detective helping me along the way – even when I froze up on it. He encouraged me with the details I needed, and without his help Race wouldn’t exist. The Lord knew that and had it all lined out for me – in spite of me. In the end I thought it turned out well.
