Into the Fire

Since I had such a good time yesterday giving you a hint of some of my major dislikes, I thought a continuation would be in order . . .

6. Un-funny comedies–I know humor is so subjective, but I am just sick of dirty jokes, bodily function jokes, over-the-top sexual humor (perverse and otherwise) and references and demonstrations and Will Ferrell. All it takes is one preview of these movies or clips during a TV commercial to let me know they’ll never have my money or my attention. What a waste.

7. Historical novels. This is by no means an inference that the authors who write these or the books themselves aren’t valuable and important. In fact, it’s just the opposite. I admire the research and everything else that goes into making these stories fascinating and authentic. It’s just that history is not my favorite subject, and I don’t like to go back to it. To my credit, one of my all time favorite novels (as well as one of the best ever written) is Francine Rivers’ Redeeming Love. I’ve also read a few others including To Die by the Sword and River Rising.

8. Chocolate ice cream. I know I just heard some monstrous gasps at that. I do like chocolate: milk chocolate and white chocolate (oxymoron). My husband loves dark chocolate, but I don’t. I won’t eat dark chocolate if that’s all there is, and to me, chocolate ice cream tastes like dark chocolate: bitter. But, actually, ice cream isn’t really my favorite thing either. I’d much rather have pie!

9. Cuss Words. You know, most of them sound so harsh and ugly and biting. Hey, I had to teach myself to cuss and swear, and I got really, really good at it. So don’t you go thinking I’m getting all holier-than-thou on ya. But, listen, what value do they really have? I always refer to them in my novels, but I don’t spell them out for readers. Hey, I’ve spoken them, used the Lord’s name in vain every which way it could be used, to my shame, and I’m tellin’ ya I knew how to use them quite well. I certainly wasn’t raised that way. And when Jesus came into my life, He changed me. I don’t think cussing and swearing speaks very highly of Him in our lives.

10. Pathetic movies. I love film. But, good grief, there are so many movies out there that never should’ve been made. You talk about all the Hollywood whiners regarding the conditions in third world countries and yada, yada, yada. If they really cared about any conditions in this world, they’d quit wasting the millions of dollars it takes to make some of the garbage they put out and donate it all to their favorite country–since the USA doesn’t happen to be it.

Okay, some of those were fairly snarky but somehow freeing!

Father, you make us all with our individual design. You are the Creator, magnificent beyond our finite imaginations. Thank you for all the colors, shapes, and sizes of life on planet earth. You are amazing. I am in awe of you. Thank you for the beauty you’ve put in my life. May I never fail to appreciate all of your creation. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
