Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

. . . and then there are friends. If you’re a people person, friends will transfer in and out of your life. Location, work, family, church all play a vital part in the establishment of friends. We know sometimes going into a friendship that time or circumstance will make it temporary, possibly even brief, not necessarily less meaningful, just for a particular niche in the life chain.

Some friendships last a lifetime, weathering the separations life serves us through the years. They pick up right where they left off as if no space intervened.

I told you how Facebook reunited me with my childhood best friend. Today we spent hours together reminiscing and filling in the blanks. Laughing. Reminding. Cherishing. Confessing. And pledging to keep communication more current.

So, Debbie, this post is for you, my Forever Friend.

Playing those favorite games
Loving horses
And sometimes the same boys
But mostly not.

Smiles erupting to silliness
Girls laughing ourselves to tears
Songs and dances
Secrets and sobs.

Stretched and strengthened
Torn and tossed
Love, loss, love again
Toughness, growth.

Rising spirit
Born to ascend
Heights with a friend
Never end.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me Debbie in the first grade. Thank you for the years spent with her. Thank you for bringing us full circle. Thank you for her. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
