Into the Fire

. . . after you’ve written some books. You become less tolerant. You desire more depth, more style, more daring. Wait. Maybe that’s just me.

A writer is told to improve his craft. And most writers pursue personal growth and advancement in their writing without having to be told.

Have you ever thought or said, “So-and-so is a writer’s writer.”? Maybe you haven’t, but some writers stand out for us. We admire what they’ve done and how they’ve done it. They actually inspire us to attempt to get better ourselves or to try new approaches. Naturally this depends upon the genres we read, our tastes in novels, what we tend to prefer in writing styles and types of voices.

I really do like variety in voice and style. I like writing that takes chances, stories which go deep into their characters to somehow illustrate motivations in different takes, causing me to consider if it works to see who they’ve become.

It’s late and I’m beat. I’ll approach this subject again.
