Pretty. I’m learning to appreciate the contrasting light and dark colors in a kitchen. Since I’ve been watching HGTV doing my homework in preparation for the great someday that I actually can have a house, I need to make those decisions.
The problem with Arizona is that while I want a recently built house, contractors have seemed to have lost touch with how to incorporate genuine southwest design into the homes. They are all cookie cutter inside and out and don’t represent Arizona at all.
Conversely, I notice that by all appearances, wood finish kitchen cabinets are out. It may be 90’s, but I LIKE a light wood grain finish on my cabinets. Maybe that comes from years as an apartment dweller where you get cheap-prefab-not-painted-to-look-like-anything cabinets. 😎
And what’s the modern day fixation with having a shower stall separate from the tub in the bathroom? Can’t people multitask and use a tub as a 2 in 1 any more? That’s weird.

I was trying to find to post here in the comments a link I had posted on FB some time back with a photo of a marvelous kitchen. But I guess my FB searching skills aren’t very good because I couldn’t locate it on my timeline. Bummer. I could kick myself for not having saved the photo.

As long as I have the predominant “light”, I can take the dark contrast, but I’m with you on the light wood stains. I love pine in particular but have seen some other beautiful light woods lately in Home Depot brochures. And not having wood? It would have to be exceptional design for me not to have wood cabinets.
I prefer a separate shower stall. Just seems like a quicker fix. I haven’t taken a bath in literally years. What gets me is the see-through glass doors. Really?LikeLike

The other modern design factor I hate is “area rugs”. I despise carpet with a passion. And when I finally have my own home there will be NONE. Not even a strip of it. People can call me a decorating cad if they want to, but that’s the way it’s going to be.
Not that I feel strongly about that or anything. LOL!!!!!!
In a way see-through glass doors for a shower are weird, but I do see where it lightens the room more when used. I’m also amazed at the number of bathrooms designed with the tub or shower right next to a window. I guess people don’t mind “advertising” when they bathe. LOL!LikeLike

Not even one rug? Well, I certainly get that from an aesthetic standpoint and from the hot environs of Arizona. However, you get to the colder damper climates, it’s nice to be able to put your feet down on a rug.

No, the extreme aversion to carpet is due to the extremely poor craftmanship of any and all vacuum cleaners. When I have a house, I will have dogs. There will be MUCH hair. And it is much easier to clean from a non-carpeted service.
I have never, ever had a vacuum worth a hill of beans with any longevity whatsoever in a dog hair environment. I don’t care if I vacuumed every day.LikeLike
