Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Are you a goal setter? Do you make resolutions? What are the five things you're looking forward to doing, hoping to accomplish, thinking will occur, or wanting to make happen in the New Year?

I'm not a resolution maker nor a goal setter, but there are three things I hope to accomplish in 2018. I have three novels to finish.

I hope to become more obedient to the Lord's leading.

Simple but not easy.

How 'bout you?

Father, only you can help me do what you want me to do. Help me listen, obey, work hard to accomplish what you have for me to do. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

More creativity in 2018 for me. It always gets squelched down by the job, chores, & errands externally, and by perfectionism internally.
So 2018 is the year to make creativity a bigger part of my life. First step in that direction is that I found an art league and a woodworking association who have regular meetings. In January, I’m going to attend each one to see if they might be a good fit for me. I figure in both cases they are full of people knowledgeable about their subject, and I know next to nothing about woodwoork or painting but want to learn.
Not sure if the woodworking one is just about power-tool type projects, which isn’t what I’m aiming for. But I won’t know if they’re a fit or not till I take a chance and check it out.
Next step is conquering the perfectionism, and the best way to do that is to work on projects even a few minutes at a time—before I have a chance to start telling myself how imperfect it is.
The other goal relates to writing–I need to make headway on becoming ‘historical political science’ knowledgeable because I need that grounding for a novel series I’ve been wanting to do for ages. For this one, it’s not sufficient to study American history only–I have to have a baseline understanding of what’s going on in other countries too–Mexico, Canada, Britain, France, etc. That just takes time and digging to get the resources I need & it’s a huge project that easily overwhelms me. So it’s another one of those ‘break it down into small chunks’ gigs.

Serious goals. I have no doubt you will accomplish them – especially the hardcore research. I wish you success and satisfaction with them all.
