Into the Fire

Passionate thoughts about the world of writing and the Power of God

Five questions:

What are you reading right now?

Would you rather have five days of snow or five days of rain?

Would you prefer cake, pie, cookies, or ice cream? What kind?

Would you rather walk or participate in specific exercise(s) or a conditioning program?

Do you prefer cats or dogs?

Father, thank you for each one who visits here. Please bless them for their thoughtful, clever, kind, and interesting responses. Encourage them as only you can do. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

    Happy Friday! WOOHOO!!!!!
Reading: “Rattlesnake Crossing”, book 6 in the Joanna Brady series by JA Jance. She has thus far kept my attention which is no easy feat.
Snow is so beautiful to look at (from long distance) but given I’m in the desert, 5 days of rain is much preferred (besides, if we’re getting 5 days of rain here, chances are good further north it’ll be snowing so we’ll get the best of both worlds. LOL!)
Ice cream. Extreme chocolate. Maybe with a bit of peanut butter mixed in (but not pre-mixed. I have to add my own.)
Ideally I love to start my morning with a 4:00 a.m. walk in decently warm weather (hurry up, spring!) but would prefer that mixed with a regular kickboxing program (heavy bag) & weights. Alas, finding a place to kickbox is like looking for The Lost Dutchman’s Gold.
Dogs all the way. No greater creature on the face of the earth. Prefer them over humans.

I’m reading The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz.
Boy, 5 days of snow would mean we’d probably be up to our roofline in snow … but 5 days of rain would probably mean a wet basement. Tough call! I’ll go with snow.
I don’t eat a lot of any of those – I’ll go with cookies. Mrs. Fields milk chocolate chip!
I love walking and hiking because I love being out in God’s creation, and when you walk you have an immediate goal that you reach.
I prefer cats. As someone who likes to get away from home, they’re much easier to deal with. Now I don’t mind dogs, but I grew up on a farm and dogs were meant to be outside. I can’t imagine dealing with the mess and work of an indoor dog!
    What are your answers, Nicole?

I’m reading A Cry From the Dust by Carrie Stuart Parks (one of the many wonderful recommendations from you!)
I’d rather have 5 days of snow.
    Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
    I love to walk!
I prefer dogs, and they have to live outside. I don’t want a pet of any kind in my home.
    What are your preferences?

I’m reading Midsummer Madness (Barbara Ellen Brink).
5 days of rain (which we have regularly) – snow is not welcome here and fortunately only shows up for one or two days and sometimes not at all – except in the mountains for all the snow sports.
Mmmm. I could go on and on about all the cake, pie, and cookies I prefer. Pie is my number 1 preference, but I love the rest. Ice cream not so much. Favorites are Baskin&Robbins Pralines and Cream and Daiquiri Ice, neither of which I’ve had in years. Maybe once every two months or so I’ll eat an ice bream bar. Favorites are Magnum’s white chocolate and/or Haagen-Das almond milk-chocolate crunch (over vanilla ice cream). (Love Mrs. Field’s milk chocolate chip, Bren!)
I love walking, but I now take an hour exercise class three mornings a week. Had to do something since the fall and winter here are just too wet and cold to be outside – at least for me.
Nothing against cats, we’ve had some, but I’m a dog person, and they now live inside. I don’t know how some animals survive in the cold and wet weather of the fall and winters. Our big German Shepherd lives indoors with us. Yes, it’s extra work to keep up with the shedding, etc., but well worth the companionship and with him the protection of a big dog who’s fierce if and when strangers come to the door.
Deb, Bren recommended Carrie Stuart Parks to me. I can’t wait for her next one. Good books, good writer.

I’m copy editing Sibella Giorello’s new book to be released very soon!
    Snow–much prettier & not muddy.
Hot chocolate chip cookies soft & gooey right out of the oven.
Walking through nature with no goals except to enjoy the beauty.
Cats! They are super smart, warm & snuggly, not needy, content, and easy pets.
    Have a wonderful Friday!

    Stone and Sunset?
Agreed regarding the muddy part – training and running race horses in it was NO fun.
Yum. Best time for chocolate chip cookies – well, second best. Eating the uncooked dough is the best part!
Aaahh. That’s a great objective for a walk in nature.
    Have a great weekend, Lora.

Yes, Stone & Sunset. 🙂 I think horses are so beautiful & majestic, but I’ve only been around them a few times in my life (trail rides). Riding a horse through nature would be even better than walking!

    Loved the book.
And I agree, riding a horse through nature would be the ultimate.
