Yesterday in my area we had major high winds. Trees came down up and down the coast and power was out in many places, and all this to a part of the state that has been ravaged by record breaking rains and flooding. I was at home listening to it whistle and whoosh, and the menacing sound scared me. Strong winds are one of those things for me: fear producing. I spent a lot of time asking for the Lord’s mercy, and it was extended. We were all safe in our various locations and sustained minimal damage on our property without the loss of power. I’m so sorry for the victims of hurricanes, tornadoes, and crippling storms. I asked the Lord to forgive me for my lack of courage.
Why do you suppose the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost as the “sound of a violent wind”? And then from that the group saw “what seemed to be tongues of fire”. Wind and fire. Two of the most terrifying and destructive forces if unleashed without control. God is not controllable. He is terrifying in His power, devastating in His wrath. Yet he produces “living” water, wind that sounds violent but brings power to us, and what seemed (and obviously looked like) fiery tongues to enable us to speak the Word of God with truth, power, and His anointing.
My only point here is that even in all the frightening power of storms on earth, we have yet to realize or experience the full extent of God’s wrath to come. Someday His justice will be meted out on earth and then at the Great White Throne. I don’t want to participate in that judgment.
If any one thing, large or small, great or minor, can be written by these hands to dissuade, deter, and/or discourage someone from seeking refuge in the things of this world rather than in the Savior Jesus Christ, then I want to write those things.
My plea this day, my Lord, is for your help to do just that. Please, God. Use me . . . this fearful at times, weak vessel who desires to give her all to you. In my disgusting weakness, please be made strong, I ask in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
