Into the Fire

If you could, who would you write like? One might say I’d write plots like so and so, literary prose like so and so, with the subtle themes like so and so. But what’s the point? You are you. You will write like you do because writing is not about copying or imitation. Your writing might resemble another’s without you ever intending it to do so. But it will still be yours. The ability to string words together, the peseverance to keep striving to write the story, to improve the craft, to back away from the keyboard with heartfelt satisfaction and gratitude to the Lord for allowing you the prvilege of authoring a work.

So, forget about the “if onlys”, and “what ifs”. The Lord made you to be you. Formed in His image, created to do good works prepared in advance. Awesome that He would do that for us. Take pleasure as He works through you for His pleasure. Trust Him–He’s got the plan down.

I know: it’s easy to say. Not easy to do. But the closer you get to Him, the better your writing will be. The better you are able to discern His voice, the more meaningful your writing voice will become. Make Him the King of your keyboard, and enjoy the creation that follows.

Father, help us submit to your leading. Always. Day in and day out. Let me hear you clearly and always take the time to listen. Make me better, Lord, in every possible way. Help me to submit to your grand design. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
